El mundo en el que vivimos mide tu valor con base en los bienes que posees. Bajo los parámetros de nuestra sociedad, el éxito se relaciona con el tener. Cuanto más tengas, “más exitoso” eres. Si tienes dinero, eres próspero y exitoso, pero si no abundas en bienes materiales y en riquezas terrenales, entonces has fracasado en la vida.
Debemos aprender de las palabras de Jesús cuando advirtió: ¡Tengan cuidado con toda clase de avaricia! La vida no se mide por cuánto tienen. Lucas 12:15 (NTV)
LA VIDA NO SE MIDE POR CUÁNTO TIENES. Qué palabra tan llena de sabiduría. La riqueza que posees no tiene nada que ver con lo que tú tengas en tu cuenta de ahorros en el banco.
¿Sabías que se puede ser “rico” pero a la vez ser una persona “pobre”?
Proverbios 13:7a (RVR 1960)
Hay quienes pretenden ser ricos, y no tienen nada…
Lo que nos dice este pasaje es justamente eso, que hay personas que creen ser ricas pero realmente no tiene nada. ¿Cómo puede ser esto? Jesús nos enseña en Lucas 16:11 que hay dos tipos de riquezas, las mundanas y las verdaderas riquezas del cielo. Con esto podemos concluir que la persona rica y que no tiene nada es la persona que tiene muchas riquezas mundanas, pero no tiene riquezas acumuladas para él en el cielo.
Permíteme sin embargo abundar un poco más. Quiero presentar 4 puntos que hacen de alguien rico una persona miserable. Mientras lees, pídele al Espíritu Santo que te ayude a elaborar un auto-diagnóstico y determinar qué tan rico eres de verdad.
Una persona “rica” es pobre…
1. Cuando basa su felicidad en el dinero y las posesiones materiales.
Aquel que busca la felicidad y la satisfacción en lo material nunca será saciado. El Dinero no puede saciar al ser humano y entre más se quiera tener menos satisfecho se va a estar. El rey Salomón tuvo muchas riquezas, y al final concluyó acerca de todas ellas lo siguiente: Pero al observar todo lo que había logrado con tanto esfuerzo, vi que nada tenía sentido; era como perseguir el viento. No había absolutamente nada que valiera la pena en ninguna parte. Eclesiastés 2:11 (NTV)
2. Cuando los bienes que posee aumentan sus problemas.
Hay personas que desperdician la primera mitad de su vida consiguiendo y acumulando dinero mientras pierden su salud, su familia y sus hijos y luego la otra mitad se les va todo el dinero que acumularon recuperando su salud, su familia y sus hijos.
Otros casos menos dramáticos simplemente son de personas que tienen mucho dinero pero no pueden dormir por causa del mismo. Viven en función de sus estados de resultados y sus pérdidas y ganancias.

La bendición de Jehová es la que enriquece, y no añade tristeza con ella.
3. Cuando el objetivo de su vida es hacer dinero.
Proverbios 23:4 (NVI)
No te afanes acumulando riquezas; no te obsesiones con ellas.
Proverbios 28:20, 22 (NVI)
El hombre fiel recibirá muchas bendiciones; el que tiene prisa por enriquecerse no quedará impune. El tacaño ansía enriquecerse, sin saber que la pobreza lo aguarda.
He escuchado a consejos que dicen, Haga todo el dinero que pueda mientras lo haga lícitamente. Este no es un buen consejo aunque así lo parezca, pues aquel que quiera hacer todo el dinero posible estará invirtiendo el tiempo en que debería estar orando, buscando de Dios, compartiendo con su familia, cuidando de su cuerpo o muchas otras cosas en conseguir dinero.
4. Cuando no tiene tesoros en el cielo.
Los tesoros en el cielo se refieren a las verdaderas riquezas. En mi próximo artículo, estaré desarrollando el tema “Las verdaderas riquezas”.

No os hagáis tesoros en la tierra, donde la polilla y el orín corrompen, y donde ladrones minan y hurtan; sino haceos tesoros en el cielo, donde ni la polilla ni el orín corrompen, y donde ladrones no minan ni hurtan. Porque donde esté vuestro tesoro, allí estará también vuestro corazón.
La riqueza no tiene nada que ver con lo que tienes sino con lo que haces y eres. Serás exitoso no en la medida en que TENGAS mucho, sino en la medida en que SEAS y HAGAS lo que estás destinado a ser y a hacer.

The poor rich
The world in which we live measures your value based upon the assets that you possess. Under the parameters of our society, success is related to possessions. The more you have, the "more successful" you are. If you have money, you are prosperous and successful, but if you don’t abound in material goods and earthly riches, then you've failed in life.
We should learn from Jesus' words when he warned: Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own. Luke 12:15 (NLT)
Life is not measured by how much you own. What a wisdom filled word. You true wealth has nothing to do with what you have in your savings account at the bank.
Did you know that you can be "rich" but be a "poor" person as well?
Proverbs 13:7a (NKJV)
There is one who makes himself rich, yet has nothing...
What this passage is saying is exactly this: there are people who believe they are rich but really have nothing. How can this be? Jesus teaches us in Luke 16:11 that there are two types of riches, worldly riches and true riches of heaven. This said, we can conclude that the rich person who has nothing is the person who has many worldly riches, but has not accumulated the true riches of heaven.
Please allow me to go a little bit deeper. I want to present 4 points that make of someone rich a miserable person as well. As you read, ask the Holy Spirit to help you develop a self-diagnosis and determine how rich you truly are.
A "rich" person is poor ...
1. When happiness is based on money and material possessions.
He who seeks happiness and satisfaction in the material realm will never be satisfied. Money cannot satisfy the human being, and the more one wants, the less satisfied one will be. King Solomon had great riches, and finally he concluded about them what follows: But as I looked at everything I had worked so hard to accomplish, it was all so meaningless—like chasing the wind. There was nothing really worthwhile anywhere. Ecclesiastes 2:11 (NLT)
2. When possessions bring more trouble.
There are people who waste the first half of life accumulating money while at the same time they are losing their health, their family and their children; and then the other half where all the money that that accumulated, the spend it recovering their health, their family and their children.
Other less dramatic cases are simply people who have lots of money but cannot sleep because of the idea of losing it. They live according to their income and profit and loss statements.

The blessing of the Lord makes a person rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.
3. When the goal in life is to make money.
Proverbs 23:4 (NIV)
Do not wear yourself out to get rich; do not trust your own cleverness.
Proverbs 28:20, 22 (NIV)
A faithful person will be richly blessed, but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished. The stingy are eager to get rich and are unaware that poverty awaits them.
Some people give this advice: “make all the money you can, just make sure you do lawfully”. This is not a good advice even when it sounds ok, because he who wants to make all the money he can, will be investing the time that he should be praying, seeking God, and sharing with his family, taking care of his body or many other things just making money.
4. When there are no treasures in heaven for him.
The treasures in heaven refer to the true riches. In my next article, I will develop the subject "True riches".

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Wealth has nothing to do with what you have but it’s related to what you are and do. You will be successful not if you HAVE much, but if you are and do what you're meant to be and do.
