La madurez espiritual: Crecimiento Espiritual (The spiritual maturity: Spiritual Growth)

1 Corintios 13:11 (RVR 1960)

Cuando yo era niño, hablaba como niño, pensaba como niño, juzgaba como niño; mas cuando ya fui hombre, dejé lo que era de niño.

El apóstol Pablo escribe a la iglesia de Corinto y les habla de actuar acorde con su edad espiritual. En cada edad es normal tener ciertos comportamientos y actitudes que van en línea con la etapa de madurez de la persona. Lo que es anormal, es que un hombre actué como niño, esto se denomina inmadurez.

En reflexiones anteriores vimos la importancia de la madurez espiritual e incluso desarrollamos una "prueba" de 7 áreas que nos permiten identificar nuestra temperatura espiritual (ver aquí). El objetivo de esta serie de enseñanzas es edificar y exhortar para que busquemos siempre ser mejores en nuestra fe. La reflexión de hoy ofrecerá algunas pautas para tener una vida de constante crecimiento espiritual.

Lo primero que debemos entender es que el objetivo de todo creyente debe ser llegar a la estatura de Jesús. Jesucristo es nuestro único modelo a seguir, Él es el punto de referencia y de inspiración.

Efesios 4:13 (RVR 1960)

Hasta que todos lleguemos a la unidad de la fe y del conocimiento del Hijo de Dios, a un varón perfecto, a la medida de la estatura de la plenitud de Cristo.

Para parecernos a alguien debemos conocer a esa persona. Es una locura pretender parecernos a Jesús sin pasar tiempo con Él. Solamente podremos parecernos a Jesús por medio de una relación personal con Él y a través de conocer su carácter para imitarlo.

A Jesús lo podemos conocer estudiando las Escrituras. Ellas revelan el carácter de Cristo y manifiestan su poder.

Marcos 12:24 (NTV)

Jesús contestó: El error de ustedes es que no conocen las Escrituras y no conocen el poder de Dios.

El mismo Pablo, quien escribió que debemos llegar a la estatura del varón perfecto Jesucristo, nos enseña que aunque nunca seremos perfectos como Jesús, siempre debemos buscar serlo hasta el último de nuestros días. El no ser perfectos no debe desanimarnos, sino que debe animarnos a seguir buscando ser como Él.

Filipenses 3:12-14 (NTV)

No quiero decir que ya haya logrado estas cosas ni que ya haya alcanzado la perfección; pero sigo adelante a fin de hacer mía esa perfección para la cual Cristo Jesús primeramente me hizo suyo. No, amados hermanos, no lo he logrado, pero me concentro únicamente en esto: olvido el pasado y fijo la mirada en lo que tengo por delante, y así avanzo hasta llegar al final de la carrera para recibir el premio celestial al cual Dios nos llama por medio de Cristo Jesús.

Esto quiere decir que en esta tierra nunca llegaremos a ser como Cristo; pero debemos esforzarnos para recibir las bendiciones que vienen de parte de Dios cuando buscamos imitarlo a Él. Nunca podremos ser perfeccionados si no pasamos tiempo conociendo a Jesús, y aunque nunca lo seremos por completo, debemos asegurarnos de estar en un proceso de constante crecimiento. Hoy debes estar mejor que ayer y mañana deberás estar mejor que hoy.

Spiritual growth

1 Corinthians 13:11 (NKJV)

When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

The apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthian church and asks them to act in accordance with their spiritual age. In each age it is normal to have certain behaviors and attitudes that are in line with the stage of maturity of a person. What is abnormal is for a man to act like a child, this is called immaturity.

In previous reflections we saw the importance of spiritual maturity and even took a "test" of seven areas that allow us to identify our spiritual temperature (click here ). The aim of this series of lessons is to edify and exhort us to seek always to be better in our faith. The reflection of today offers some guidelines for a life of constant spiritual growth.

The first thing to understand is that the goal of every believer should be to reach the stature of Jesus. Jesus Christ is our only role model. He is the reference point and inspiration of a Believer.

Ephesians 4:13 (NKJV)

Till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.

To become like someone, we must first know that person. It's crazy to pretend to be like Jesus without spending time with Him. We might only become like Jesus through a personal relationship with Him and through knowing His character to imitating Him.

We can know Jesus by studying the Scriptures. They reveal the character of Christ and manifest His power.

Mark 12:24 (NLT)

Jesus replied, “Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.

The same Paul, who wrote that we must come to the stature of the perfect man Jesus Christ, teaches us that although we will never be perfect like Jesus, we must always seek to be like Him until the end of our days. Not being perfect should not discourage us, but should encourage us to continue pretending to be like Him.

Philippians 3:12-14 (NLT)

I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

This means that this in this earth, will never become like Christ; but we must work to receive the blessings that come from God when we seek to imitate Him. We will never be perfected if we don’t spend time getting to know Jesus, and although we will never be complete, we must ensure ourselves to be in a process of permanent growth. You should be better today than yesterday, and tomorrow than today.
