Ángeles Parte I (Angels Part I)

Los ángeles han sido objeto de fascinación y estudio a lo largo de la historia. Sin embargo, existe mucha ignorancia frente al tema, tanto dentro como fuera de la iglesia cristiana. El objetivo de esta reflexión es proveer luz sobre este importante tópico.

La palabra ángel encuentra su raíz etimológica en la palabra griega “aggelos” que quiere decir mensajero. En hebreo viene de la palabra “malák” que significa mensajero de Dios.

A continuación presento algunos versos bíblicos y verdades bíblicas acerca de los ángeles.

- Al igual que los hombres, los ángeles son seres creados.

No debemos adorar a los ángeles porque son seres creados como nosotros. Todo lo que existe, incluidos los ángeles, fue creado por y para Jesucristo. Los ángeles fueron creados para adorar a Dios; no para ser adorados por los hombres.

Colosenses 1:16 (NTV)

Porque, por medio de él, Dios creó todo lo que existe en los lugares celestiales y en la tierra. Hizo las cosas que podemos ver y las que no podemos ver, tales como tronos, reinos, gobernantes y autoridades del mundo invisible. Todo fue creado por medio de él y para él.

Nehemías 9:6 (RVR 1960)

Tú solo eres Jehová; tú hiciste los cielos, y los cielos de los cielos, con todo su ejército, la tierra y todo lo que está en ella, los mares y todo lo que hay en ellos; y tú vivificas todas estas cosas, y los ejércitos de los cielos te adoran.

- Los ángeles son mayores que los hombres en fuerza y potencia.

Entre ellos hay rangos y jerarquías. El arcángel es superior a un ángel. El arcángel Miguel es como el “comandante de las fuerzas armadas” del cielo. El ángel Gabriel es un mensajero de Dios. Jesucristo es el comandante máximo de todos los ejércitos celestiales.

2 Pedro 2:11 (RVR 1960)

Mientras que los ángeles, que son mayores en fuerza y en potencia, no pronuncian juicio de maldición contra ellas delante del Señor.

1 Pedro 3:22 (RVR 1960)

Quien habiendo subido al cielo está a la diestra de Dios; y a él están sujetos ángeles, autoridades y potestades.

Judas 1:9 (RVR 1960)

Pero cuando el arcangel Miguel, contendía con el diablo, disputando con él por el cuerpo de Moisés, no se atrevió a proferir juicio de maldición contra él, sino que dijo: El Señor te reprenda.

- Los ángeles no se casan, ni mueren.

Todos los ángeles que existen ya fueron creados en el principio (Génesis 1).

Mateo 22:30 (RVR 1960)

Porque en la resurrección ni se casarán ni se darán en casamiento, sino serán como los ángeles de Dios en el cielo.

Lucas 20:35-36 (RVR 1960)

Mas los que fueren tenidos por dignos de alcanzar aquel siglo y la resurrección de entre los muertos, ni se casan, ni se dan en casamiento. Porque no pueden ya más morir, pues son iguales a los ángeles, y son hijos de Dios, al ser hijos de la resurrección.

- Son seres de gran conocimiento, pero no son omniscientes.

Ni siquiera los ángeles conocen el día y la hora del regreso de Jesucristo. Me parece curioso cuando alguien dice que sabe cuándo volverá Cristo, porque un ángel se lo reveló.

Marcos 13:32 (RVR 1960)

Pero de aquel día y de la hora nadie sabe, ni aun los ángeles que están en el cielo, ni el Hijo, sino el Padre.

- Pueden ser vistos por los hombres.

La Biblia está llena de historias en las que los ángeles se manifestaron a los hombres. Siempre hubo un propósito claro de parte de Dios cuando esto sucedía, y vemos que los ángeles actuaban en respuesta a una orden divina. La manifestación de los ángeles no viene como respuesta a una solicitud del hombre, sino a una orden de Dios. Jesucristo es el comandante máximo de los ejércitos celestiales y solamente a Él le obedecen. Algunas personas les oran a los ángeles y les piden cosas, pero todo debemos pedirlo es a Jesús pues es a Él a quien obedecen.

Juan 20:12 (RVR 1960)

Y vio a dos ángeles con vestiduras blancas, que estaban sentados el uno a la cabecera, y el otro a los pies, donde el cuerpo de Jesús había sido puesto.

Génesis 32:1 (RVR 1960)

Jacob siguió su camino, y le salieron al encuentro ángeles de Dios.

Hebreos 13:2 (RVR 1960)

No os olvidéis de la hospitalidad, porque por ella algunos, sin saberlo, hospedaron ángeles.

Angels Part I

Angels have been the subject of fascination and study throughout history. However I have seen a lot of ignorance regarding this topic, both inside and outside the Christian church. The aim of this study is to provide light on this important topic.

The word angel finds its etymological roots in the Greek word "ángelos" which means messenger. It comes from the Hebrew word "Malakh" which means messenger of God.

What follows are some Bible verses and biblical truths about angels.

- Like men, angels are created beings.

We must not worship angels because they are created beings like us. Everything that exists, including angels was created through and for Christ. Angels were created to worship God; not to be worshiped by men.

Colossians 1:16 (NLT)

For through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him.

Nehemías 9:6 (NKJV)

You alone are the Lord; You have made heaven, The heaven of heavens, with all their host, The earth and everything on it, The seas and all that is in them, And You preserve them all. The host of heaven worships You.

- Angels are greater than man in strength and power.

Among them, there are ranks and hierarchies. An archangel is superior to an angel. The archangel Michael is like the "commander of the armed forces" of heaven. The angel Gabriel is a messenger of God. Jesus Christ is the chief commander of all the armies of heaven.

2 Peter 2:11 (NKJV)

Whereas angels, who are greater in power and might, do not bring a reviling accusation against them before the Lord.

1 Peter 3:22 (NKJV)

Who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.

Jude 1:9 (NKJV)

Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”

- Angels do not marry or die.

All the angels that exist were created from the beginning (Genesis 1).

Mathew 22:30 (NKJV)

For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels of God in heaven.

Luke 20:35-36 (NKJV)

And He said to them, “When I sent you without money bag, knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything?”So they said, “Nothing.” Then He said to them, “But now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one.

- They are beings of great knowledge, though not omniscient.

Not even the angels know the day and time of the return of Jesus Christ. I find it funny when someone says that they know it because an angel revealed it to them.

Mark 13:32 (NKJV)

But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

- They may be seen by men.

The Bible is full of stories in which angels interacted with men. There was always a clear purpose from God when this happened, and we always see that angels acted in response to a divine order. The manifestation of the angels does not come in response to a request from man, but they respond to God's command. Jesus Christ is the chief commander of the heavenly host and they only obey Him. Some people pray to angels and ask them for things, but we must only ask Jesus, for it is Him whom angels obey.

John 20:12 (NKJV)

And she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.

Genesis 32:1 (NKJV)

So Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him.

Hebrews 13:1 (NKJV)

Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.
