Amor más grande que la fe (Love greater than faith)

Indiscutiblemente la fe es un elemento fundamental dentro del cristianismo. La Biblia enseña (Hebreos 11) que sin fe es imposible agradar a Dios, y que por medio de la fe podemos entender el mundo espiritual. También sabemos que somos salvos por gracia por medio de la fe (Efesios 2). Esto hace que la fe sea un atributo fundamental e irremplazable en la vida de cualquier creyente. No es posible sustituir la fe por absolutamente nada.

Sin embargo, la misma Biblia que enseña acerca de la importancia de la fe, nos enseña que hay algo que es aun más importante que la fe: EL AMOR.

AMOR > FE. Así de sencillo.

1 Corintios 13:13 (NTV)

Tres cosas durarán para siempre: la fe, la esperanza y el amor; y la mayor de las tres es el amor.

Piensa en esto: Sólo hay tres cosas que durarán por la eternidad. Ni tu dinero, ni tu cuerpo físico, ni tus propiedades, ni tu conocimiento, ni las empresas que puedas crear. Solamente la fe, la esperanza y el amor son eternas.

Ahora, la MAYOR es el amor. La palabra amor en el original quiere decir: afecto, benevolencia y caridad.

Es un amor con piernas. Un amor en acción, y este es el mayor de todos los atributos que un creyente puede tener.

Por eso dice la Biblia que si no tienes amor, aunque tengas muchos dones y hagas muchas buenas obras, vienes a ser como un metal ruidoso o un címbalo que resuena. Puedes tener mucha, fe, ir a la iglesia, dar mucho dinero, servir en todos los servicios que haga la iglesia local, pero si no amas como Jesús amó, NADA ERES.

Me llama la atención en el contexto de 1 Corintios 13 (recomiendo leer todo este capítulo) este pasaje en particular.

1 Corintios 13:3 (NTV)

Si diera todo lo que tengo a los pobres y hasta sacrificara mi cuerpo, podría jactarme de eso; pero si no amara a los demás, no habría logrado nada.

¿Sabías que se puede dar mucho dinero sin amar? Esto es posible porque muchas personas en lugar de dar por amor, dan por orgullo y vanidad. Dan para ser vistos por otros y para mostrar cuán "buenos" son. El mundo no necesita tus sobras, el mundo necesita tu amor incondicional y desinteresado.

Puede que hoy ayudes a otros y seas generoso con otros, pero te pregunto algo, ¿estarías dispuesto a dar lo que das de una manera anónima sin esperar nada a cambio? Ni reconocimiento, ni agradecimientos ni certificados de donaciones ni crédito alguno.

Así nos amó Jesús. Nos amó sin esperar nada a cambio.

Amemos con un amor incondicional. Un amor más grande que la fe.

Love greater than faith

Faith is unquestionably a key element in Christianity. The Bible teaches (Hebrews 11) that without faith it is impossible to please God, and that through faith we understand the spiritual world. We also know that we are saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2). This causes faith to be a fundamental and irreplaceable attribute in the life of every believer. It is not possible to substitute faith for anything.

However, the same Bible that teaches about the importance of faith, teaches us that there is something even more important than faith: LOVE.

LOVE > FAITH. This simple.

1 Corinthians 13:13 (NLT)

Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.

Think about this: There are only three things that last for eternity. Neither your money nor your physical body or your properties or your knowledge or the companies that you can create. Only faith, hope and love are eternal.

Now, the GREATEST of this is love. The word love in the original means: affection, benevolence and charity.

It is a love with legs. A love in action, and this is the greatest of all the attributes that a believer can have.

That's why the Bible says that if you don't have love, even if you have many gifts and do many good works, you come to be like a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. You can have a lot of faith, go to church, give a lot of money, serve in all the services that the local church offers, but if you do not love as Jesus loved, YOU ARE NOTHING.

My attention in the context of 1 Corinthians 13 (I recommend reading this entire chapter) is caught by this particular passage.

1 Corinhians 13:3 (NLT)

If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.

Did you know that you can give lots of money without loving? This is possible because many people instead of giving with love, give from their pride and vanity. They give to be seen by others and to show how "good" they are. The world does not need your leftovers, the world needs your unconditional and selfless love.

You can help others today and be generous, but let me ask you something, would you be willing to give in an anonymous fashion without expecting anything in return? No recognition, no thank you's, no certificates or credits.

Jesus loved us like this. He loved us without expecting anything in return.

Let’s love with unconditional love. A love greater than faith.
