Amor, gozo, paz... (Love, joy, peace...)

Gálatas 5:22-23 (RVR 1960)

Mas el fruto del Espíritu es amor, gozo, paz, paciencia, benignidad, bondad, fe, mansedumbre, templanza; contra tales cosas no hay ley.

Venimos hablando acerca del fruto del Espíritu Santo producido en la vida del creyente que depende totalmente de Él. Jesús dijo (Juan 15:5) claramente que solamente en Él podemos producir fruto, esto implica, que todo esfuerzo humano por producir buenos frutos, separados de Jesús es inútil.

En el comentario bíblico de Mathew Henry el autor divide el fruto del Espíritu en tres categorías.

AMOR, GOZO, PAZ: Se manifiesta en la relación con Dios.
PACIENCIA, BENIGNIDAD, BONDAD: Se manifiesta en la relación con el prójimo.
FE, MANSEDUMBRE, TEMPLANZA: Se manifiesta hacia el interior de uno mismo.

Hoy vamos a enfocarnos en la primera división.

AMOR: Este es el primogénito entre todas las virtudes del fruto. Pablo dice en 1 de Corintios 13, que el amor es el mayor de todos los atributos. Sin amor, es imposible que se manifiesten las demás características del fruto del Espíritu. Debido a que no podemos hacer nada separados de Jesús (Dios), si no tenemos amor, estamos inhabilitados para producir fruto.

1 Juan 4:8 (RV60)

El que no ama, no ha conocido a Dios; porque Dios es amor.

El amor del fruto del Espíritu, es un amor sublime y santo. Es el inmenso amor de Cristo, derramado por el Espíritu Santo en nuestro corazón.

GOZO: Este es un gozo profundo y firme que persiste victorioso aun cuando las cosas no marchan nada bien. Es un gozo fundamentado en la fe y no en las emociones. La persona mundana (aquella que no conoce a Cristo), puede disfrutar de cierta felicidad momentánea, pero en cualquier instante se puede quedar sin ella.

Mira las palabras de Pablo relatadas en el libro de los Hechos, nos habla de un gozo que está cimentado en el ministerio dado por Dios, no en las circunstancias de la vida.

Hechos 20:24 (RV60)

Pero de ninguna cosa hago caso, ni estimo preciosa mi vida para mí mismo, con tal que acabe mi carrera con gozo, y el ministerio que recibí del Señor Jesús, para dar testimonio del evangelio de la gracia de Dios.

PAZ: Al igual que el gozo, la paz fruto del Espíritu, es una paz incomprensible. Esta paz no está atada a las situaciones o al contexto en el que vivimos, es una paz que viene aun cuando estamos enfrentando dificultad. Esta paz solamente se puede experimentar cuando hemos puesto nuestra confianza en Jesús.

Isaías 26:3 (RV60)

Tú guardarás en completa paz a aquel cuyo pensamiento en ti persevera; porque en ti ha confiado.

Al estudiar la Biblia y el contexto en el que se escribió, es posible determinar que éste conocido salmo se escribió en medio de la guerra. Solamente la paz que viene como fruto de la confianza en Dios puede producir paz y permitirnos dormir en paz en medio de una guerra. Hoy la gente paga millones de pesos para poder dormir, ¿acaso no saben que basta con confiar en Jesús para dormir como bebé?

Salmos 4:8 (RV60)

En paz me acostaré, y asimismo dormiré; Porque solo tú, Jehová, me haces vivir confiado.

Love, joy, peace...

Galatians 5:22-23 (NKJV)

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

We have been talking about the fruit of the Holy Spirit, which is produced in the life of a believer that is totally dependent of Him. Jesus clearly says (John 15:5) that only in Him we can produce fruit; this means that every human effort to produce good fruit separated from Jesus is useless.

In the biblical commentary of Matthew Henry the author divides the fruit in three categories.

ALOVE, JOY, PEACE: It manifests itself in the relationship with God.
LONGSUFFERING, KINDNESS, GOODNESS: It manifests itself in the relationship with others.
FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS, SELF-CONTROL: It manifests into oneself.

Today we will focus in the first division.

LOVE: This is the firstborn among all the virtues of the fruit. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 13, that love is the greatest of all attributes. Without love, it is impossible that the other characteristics of the fruit of the Spirit be manifest. Because we can do nothing apart from Jesus (God), if we do not love, we are ineligible to bear fruit.

1 John 4:8 (NKJV)

He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

JOY: This is a deep and abiding joy that victoriously persists even when things are not going well at all. It is a joy based on faith and not on emotions. The worldly person (one that does not know Christ), can enjoy some momentary happiness, but at any time may run out of it.

Look at Paul's words in the book of Acts. He tells us of a joy that is grounded in the God-given ministry, not the circumstances of life.

Acts 20:24 (NKJV)

But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.

PEACE: Like joy, peace, fruit of the Spirit, is an incomprehensible peace. This peace is not tied to the situation or context in which we live; it is a peace that comes when we are still facing difficulties. This peace can be experienced only when we put our trust in Jesus.

Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV)

You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.

By studying the Bible and the context in which it was written, it is possible to determine that this known psalm was written in the midst of war. Only the peace that comes as a result of reliance on God can produce peace and allow us to sleep peacefully in the middle of a war. Today people pay thousands of dollars to sleep; don’t they know that to trust Jesus is enough to sleep as a baby?

Psalms 4:8 (NKJV)

I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.
