Muchos cristianos hoy viven su vida de fe en torno a la esperanza de una mejor vida en la tierra. Generalmente esa mejor vida se ve reflejada en un anhelo por tener más dinero, más bienes, más estudios, mejor trabajo, mejor vivienda, más lujos, viajar más, y disfrutar más de las bendiciones materiales que Dios nos provee.

He visto por ejemplo que muchos cristianos usan como gancho evangelístico la idea de una mejor vida. Dicen a sus conocidos, con el mejor corazón y las mejores intenciones, cosas como: "Ven a mi iglesia que acá podrás ver tu matrimonio restaurado", o "en mi iglesia Dios te puede sanar", "serás libre de deudas porque Dios te puede prosperar"...

Lo anterior presenta varios problemas, uno de ellos, que enseñamos a la gente a buscar la mano de Dios en lugar de buscar a Dios mismo. Formamos creyentes que van tras los beneficios en lugar de ir al benefactor. Otro problema, es que fomentamos una cultura materialista y egoísta que pone al hombre en el centro en lugar de darle el centro a Jesucristo.

Quiero enfatizar como siempre lo hago en que no estoy en contra de las bendiciones de Dios, y soy un convencido de que Dios anhela lo mejor para nosotros. De hecho, yo mismo soy un ejemplo de la prosperidad de Dios, pues no solo nada me falta sino que tengo más que suficiente. Sin embargo, soy un defensor de la predicación del evangelio de Jesucristo. Ese evangelio que nos llama al arrepentimiento y que nos lleva a entregar nuestra vida por completo a Jesús por encima de aquello que Él nos puede dar.

El apóstol Pablo escribió este mensaje a la iglesia de Filipos haciendo referencia a sus títulos, logros, y posesiones. La escribió desde la cárcel por cierto.

Pero cuantas cosas eran para mí ganancia, las he estimado como pérdida por amor de Cristo.

Y ciertamente, aun estimo todas las cosas como pérdida por la excelencia del conocimiento de Cristo Jesús, mi Señor, por amor del cual lo he perdido todo, y lo tengo por basura, para ganar a Cristo.

Me impresiona ver que hoy las iglesias enseñan a la gente a anhelar, desear, y buscar más logros, títulos, propiedades, bienes, y bendiciones materiales cuando Pablo nos enseña que todo esto, en contraste con el conocimiento de Cristo Jesús es BASURA. En otras palabras, los cristianos viven escarbando en la basura cuando el modelo bíblico nos llama a despojarnos por completo, entregar toda nuestra a vida a Dios y poner nuestra mirada en las cosas de arriba (Colosenses 3:2) y recibir como consecuencia las añadiduras que Dios tiene para nosotros (Mateo 6:33).

Deja de escarbar la basura y enfócate en el mayor tesoro que es Jesús. Él se ocupará de que tengas una vida balanceada y bendecida en esta tierra. Eso es prosperidad.

Stop digging in the trash

Many Christians today live their life of faith around the hope of a better life on earth. Generally the thought of a better life is a desire to have more money, more goods, more education, better job, better housing, more luxuries, travel more, and enjoy more of the material blessings that God provides us.

I have seen for example that many Christians use as an evangelistic hook the idea of a better life. They say to their acquaintances, with the best of hearts and best intentions, things like: "Come to my church and here your marriage will be restored," or "in my church God you can heal you," "you will be debt free because God you can prosper you"...

This presents several problems, one of them, we teach people to seek God's hand instead of seeking God Himself. We form believers that pursue the benefits instead of seeking for the benefactor. Another problem is that we foster a materialistic and selfish culture that places man in the center instead of giving all glory to Jesus Christ.

I want to emphasize as I always do, that I am not against God's blessings, and I am convinced that God wants the best for us. In fact, I myself am an example of God's prosperity, not only because I lack nothing, but because I have more than enough. However, I am an advocate of the gospel of Jesus Christ. That true gospel that calls us to repentance and that leads us to give our lives completely to Jesus despite what He can give us or not.

The apostle Paul wrote this message to the Philippian church referring to his titles, achievements, and possessions. He wrote it from prison by the way.

Philippians 3:7-8 (NKJV)

But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ.

I am impressed to see that today churches teach people to crave, desire, and look for more achievements, titles, properties, goods, and material blessings while Paul teaches us that these things, in contrast to the knowledge of Christ Jesus is GARBAGE. In other words, Christians live digging in the garbage when the biblical model calls us to rid ourselves completely, give all our to life completely to God, and set our eyes on things above (Colossians 3:2) and all other things shall be aded to us (Mathew 6:33).

Stop digging in the garbage and focus on the greatest treasure, Christ Jesus. He will take care of you and see that you have a balanced and blessed life on this earth. That's prosperity.
